Art Direction and Graphics for The Knox Student

Design, branding, oversight, and layout

Working for a prestigious student paper such as TKS was an incredibly rewarding experience. From starting as a principle graphic designer, and working my way up to Art Director, I was able to learn a lot about what goes into journalistic graphics, the printing process in general, and how to collaborate and meet tight deadlines. TKS also gave me a lot of opportunities to explore different styles and projects through the many and varied stories I was tasked with visually representing. It even earned me some national recognition; In 2015 I placed 2nd in open-competition quarter-page ad design for the ICPA awards. Much of my work focused on page layout and and data visualization, but I consistently delved into everything from editorial sketches, icons, typography and more. Ultimately though, my greatest leave-behind with the paper itself was my re-design of the entire print edition (exemplified above) which updated the publication to a much more modern and sleek look.
